HUMAN RELATIONS COUNCIL

Purpose: Advisory to the Board of Commissioners and Brevard City Council; promotes unity and harmony among the citizens and groups of citizens of this community in their relations with one another; encourages recognition that every individual is endowed with certain fundamental human rights; conducts studies and investigations, meetings, and hearings on grievances for the peaceful settlement of human relations problems

Membership: 15 members: 6 members appointed by the Board of Commissioners and 9 members by the Brevard City Council. All members shall be residents of Brevard and/or Transylvania County, and receive no compensation. Members serve a 3-year term (staggered), no term limit; terms expire in May. The chairman is elected annually by the council membership.
