SOCIAL SERVICES BOARD

 

 

 

 

Purpose:               Advisory to the Department of Social Services; hires and provides support and guidance for the social service director; advises local authorities on social conditions and needs in the community; helps ensure effectiveness, efficiency, fairness and excellence in the public social services system

 

 

Authority:              -  NCGS 108A

 

                                

Membership:        5 member board, 2 members of which are appointed from the community at large by the Board of Commissioners.  Members must live within Transylvania County.  Members serve a 3-year term (staggered), 2- term limit (after any partial term is complete, or extended if a waiver of the 2-term limit has been granted); terms expire in June.  The chairman is elected annually by the membership.

Meetings:              The Social Services Board meets at 9:00 am on the fourth Tuesday of each month in the DSS conference room.
