TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE

Purpose: Advisory to the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the Board of Commissioners; develops and maintains a comprehensive plan prioritizing and listing the road needs of the county; prepares and submits an annual road needs report and recommendations for the Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP); serves as the contact point for citizens with road-related concerns, and assists them to contact the proper agency or person to facilitate resolving their concerns

Authority: - County Resolution 124-89 (05/08/89) and amended 06/14/93 and 06/12/00

Membership: 9 member board appointed by the Board of Commissioners, with 1 appointed to represent the City of Brevard and 1 appointed to represent the Town of Rosman based upon recommendations from the city and town. Members serve a 3-year term (staggered), 2- term limit (after any partial term is complete, or extended if a waiver of the 2-term limit has been granted); terms expire in May. The chairman is appointed annually by the Board of Commissioners.
