,80 ü 3,803 individuals or households were receiving Medicaid assistance as of June 30, 2009.  This reflects a 6% increase
    over the previous year.

ü 6,299 medically necessary one-way trips were arranged or provided for through the Medicaid Transportation Program.

ü    ü 1,662 households were receiving Food and Nutrition Services as of June 30, 2009. This reflects a 30% increase over the
     previous year.

ü      ü  65 families were receiving Work First cash assistance on June 30, 2009, with 27 of these families involved in employment
     services.

65  ü Through Child Support Enforcement, Transylvania County served approximately 900 children and collected in excess of
    $1,734,000 for their benefit. 

ü     ü The Child Support Enforcement Unit at TCDSS received state recognition for being one of the top fifteen offices in the state
     based on performance goals set by the state and federal government.

ü 1,350 citizens were assessed and $289,519 in Emergency Crisis Assistance Funds were distributed

ü  $1,040,934 dollars of child care subsidy was provided to benefit 340 children

ü  1 Adult Day Care Center, 1 Adult Day Health Center, 2 Adult Care Homes and 6 Family Care Homes were licensed and
      monitored.  Fourteen adults attending Adult Day Health or Adult Care were able to do so as recipients of the State Adult Day
      Care program.

ü  35 adults were assessed for abuse, neglect or exploitation by caretakers

ü  DSS served as legal guardian for 11 adults

ü  16 adults were able to remain in their homes as an alternative to long term care through the Special Assistance In-Home
      program

ü  293 reports of potential child abuse / neglect were assessed.

ü  74 children were found to have been abused or neglected.

ü  41 children were served through the foster care program.

ü  Nine children formerly in DSS custody obtained a permanent home through adoption

ü  79 adoptive families were assisted with the receipt of state and federal adoption assistance funds.
