You may have seen the white high top vans going through town or coming to pick up a neighbor. These vans are provided by Transylvania County through the County's Transportation Department, and provide transportation for a number of services for the citizens of the County. The system averages providing 137 trips per day.

Senior Adult Transportation

The county vans provide transportation for many “mature” adults (60 years young or older) throughout Transylvania County. These passengers are transported to Nutrition sites each weekday. The Nutrition sites that the county vans provide services to are the Quebec Community Center and Silvermont. The county vans also provide transportation services for these passengers to shopping centers, recreational centers, as well as financial and utility locations (post office, bill payments, etc.). For the 11-12 fiscal year 11,157 trips were provided.

Handicapped / Disabled Transportation

The county vans provide transportation for people with mental and physical disabilities from home to Transylvania Vocational Services (TVS) on a daily basis. Lift-equipped vehicles are utilized to help passengers who are mobility challenged. For the 11-12 fiscal year 4,264 trips were provided.

Child Transportation

The county vans provide transportation for pre-school age children from home to the County’s Child Development center on a daily basis. General Public Transportation

The general public may ride the county vans at a cost of $1.00 per person each way within Transylvania County. General public transportation is for shopping trips, hair / barber appointments, employment, mail, bill payments, etc… for any individuals not involved with other agency programs. All requests for transportation must be made prior to 10:00 am at least one (1) workday in advance. Fares are expected to be paid upon boarding the vehicle. For the 11-12 fiscal year 8.968 trips were provided.

Med-Drive Transportation

MED-Drive transportation is available for citizens of Transylvania County. In-county medical transportation is sponsored by Transylvania County as a community service to the residents of Transylvania County. This is a service for persons over the age of 60, or those who meet special eligibility requirements who have no other means of transportation. The goal is to provide round-trip transportation within the county for those having scheduled appointments with doctors, outpatient services, public health or other health related appointments. This service only provides transportation for scheduled medical appointments. This is not an emergency transportation service. The vans are handicapped accessible. Med-Drive Transportation is provided between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the exception of holidays.

Dialysis Transportation

The county currently provides dialysis transportation via vans to the Hendersonville Dialysis Center.  Dialysis transportation is provided on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The ridership for the 11-12 fiscal year is calculated with the general public numbers.
