Transylvania County Register of Deeds, Cindy Ownbey, is pleased to announce that the Register of Deeds Office will begin accepting passport applications on behalf of the U.S. Department of State on October 5, 2021.

U.S. citizens planning international travel may apply for their passports at the Transylvania County Register of Deeds Office, Passport Division, on Tuesday through Thursday from 9am to 4pm by appointment only. The passport office is located at 20 East Morgan Street in Brevard.

“We are excited to offer this new service for our citizens,” said Ownbey, “My office has fielded inquiries about passports for several years now and we are happy to bring this service to Transylvania County.”

Registrar Ownbey made the request to pursue the application to provide the service to the Board of Commissioners in June of this year including approval of an additional part time position, but with revenues that are projected to offset all additional expenses. Commissioners unanimously approved the proposal.

“Commissioners encourage everyone in our organization to look for ways to better serve our citizens and we commend our Registrar for bringing this proposal forward. This will provide a higher level of service to our citizens and the revenues will offset the costs. It is a win-win for all,” County Commission Chairman Jason Chappell said.
