FY 27 Budget Process (July 1, 2026- June 30, 2027)
The Transylvania County Government Budget Process starts in January and, by state law, must be balanced and adopted by July 1 to begin the new fiscal year. State law dictates a lot of about county budgets and those budgets can be complex because of state mandates for services given to counties in our state. Additionally, the structure of county government is unique involving more elected officials than just the governing board such as the Board of Education, Sheriff and Register of Deeds. Each commissioner meeting during this time frame often involves different elements of the budget as the County Manager prepares the recommended budget to present to commissioners by June 1, as required by statute.
