 At the November 23rd, Board of County Commissioner Meeting, Megan Silver was appointed as the DSS Special Council.

Megan is a native of Western North Carolina. She received her undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University and Juris Doctor from Elon University School of Law. Megan began practicing law in 2009 and has extensive experience representing families and served as the Agency Attorney for the McDowell County Department of Social Services.

Having grown up in a small town outside of Asheville, Megan is passionate about giving back to local communities throughout Western North Carolina and looks forward to serving Transylvania County.

County Manager, Jaime Laughter said, “We are excited to have Megan as DSS Special Counsel. We are impressed with her experience and are confident that she will make an impact by providing legal expertise to DSS ensuring staff is able to provide the best services for our families.” While Page Lemel, Commissioners and DSS Board Member states "In my capacity as both a Transylvania County Commissioner and as a member of our DSS Board, I am pleased to have Ms. Silver join our team. The work performed on behalf of our most vulnerable citizens is an essential element of county government. Megan is dedicated to providing high quality services to our children, families, and adults who are engaged with our DSS department. She brings a wealth of experience from different levels of our legal system to Transylvania County. I look forward to working with her."

Ms. Silver will begin her work with Transylvania County on December 28, 2020.
