Update on Storm Debris Status in Transylvania County
On July 8, 2025, County Manager Jaime Laughter and Emergency Management Director Kevin Shook met with federal and state representatives for operational planning debris services and to discuss funding options for debris removal. Since the meeting on June 24, funding has been made available for services in Transylvania County to support remaining waterway and private property debris removal with direct assistance. The county will have two options to consider to complete waterway and private property and demolition removal services.
Remaining waterway debris removal sites are scheduled to be evaluated by FEMA and USACE teams later this week. All remaining sites reported to county staff have been forwarded to be assessed for eligibility.
Private property debris removal applications are being reviewed and there is a total of 412 application packets submitted in Transylvania County. The United States Army Corps of Engineers technical assistance will complete review of the sites and continue to coordinate with county staff to keep the process moving as the funding option decision is finalized early next week.
NCDOT has hired a contractor that is going to be completing the remainder of debris pick up in NCDOT right of ways that were not collected in the first mission.
An update is anticipated to be issued next week with additional information and the county will continue to issue regular updates.
