N.C.G.S. § 160A-280 allows a county government to donate to another governmental unit or nonprofit entity, any personal property that the governing board deems to be surplus, obsolete or unused, following the posting of a public notice for at least five days prior to the adoption of a resolution approving the donation.
The Transylvania County Board of Commissioners intends to donate a Meggitt FATS 100 LE Firearms Simulator currently in possession of the Sheriff’s Office to Blue Ridge Community College. The company, Meggitt Systems, is no longer in business and therefore the equipment can no longer be supported or updated. The Board of Commissioners intends to approve the donation by resolution at its next meeting on February 23, 2026.
