BREVARD, NC –County Planning and Community Development will have new leadership with a familiar face. County Planner Ashley Minery has been promoted to the director position effective February 23.


Minery holds a bachelor’s degree in History and English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s in public administration from Western Carolina University. She has been employed with Transylvania County for 5 years and is involved with Land Use Ordinance Enforcement, Plat Review, Compliance Inspections, Community Engagement Grants, GIS and Small Area Plans. She has served as the designated county’s lead planner on the Brevard Transylvania Housing Plan, FWRD Transylvania (Long Term Recovery Group), Land of Sky Regional Housing Alliance, Asheville Regional Housing Consortium, UNC School of Government OUR Home Forum/NCImpact Alliance and the Brevard Transylvania Housing Coalition.


As the director she will continue to build on her prior county experience including housing initiatives, development planning, and transportation including an ongoing study, comprehensive planning and community initiatives in addition to her additional role of leading the Planning and Transportation Departments.


When asked about the upcoming change, County Manager Laughter replied, “We are fortunate that Ms. Minery has chosen to continue to grow her career in Transylvania County. In the years she has been in the planning department she has demonstrated a commitment to professional growth by expanding her education and training while also demonstrating a commitment to serving the citizens of Transylvania County. Her applied professional judgement and care for the future our county have been evident in all of her work and truly shined in her role leading the first housing plan. I look forward to seeing her lead the department and continue to make meaningful contributions to our citizens’ quality of life.


Ashley lives in Transylvania County with her husband Daniel and son Cam. When asked about her promotion to the new role she responded, “I'm proud of the planning and community development efforts our department has undertaken in recent years and look forward to building on them in the future. I feel very grateful to call Transylvania County home and I'm looking forward to serving our wonderful community in this new capacity.”
